Montclair Music Studio Guitar Concert
Montclair Music Studio on Watchung Avenue right across the street from Watchung Park has been a beloved resource in the community for over 45 years. Their long-standing reputation no doubt has to do with their goal: of providing “the highest quality musical instruction in the warmest, most congenial atmosphere possible.”
Montclair Music Studio’s veteran guitar instructor David Candido has been playing guitar for over 40 years and teaching with the studio since 1985.
Dave’s teaching combines traditional methods with practical, hands-on examples, believing that students learn best by playing songs in the styles they like, by the artists they like. He studied at Berkeley School of Music and William Paterson University.
Dave focuses on the more creative sides of music such as improvisation and songwriting. In addition to the guitar, David plays the bass, ukulele, drums, and piano and, in his spare time, drives an ambulance several nights a week and enjoys playing baseball, basketball and tennis.

A Guided Walking Tour of Watchung Park and Plaza with Montclair History Center
In the early days of Montclair’s settlement, Watchung Avenue divided the Dutch farmlands of Speertown in the north end of today’s Montclair from the English farmlands of Cranetown. All that changed when the railroad came through in the late 1800s. Developers bought the farms and created business districts and housing around the new stations. This walk took participants through a turn-of-the-century business district and commuter suburb, developed between 1900 and 1930. The tour included a special stop at the site of the new Judy Weston Garden in Watchung Park, a place for residents and passersby “to reflect and connect.” The garden honors the late philanthropist and devoted friend of Montclair.
Featured Event: Buskers II
We are thrilled to highlight the talented trio from Montclair State University who brought sunshine to passersby on a cloudy day. As part of the on-going Pop Up Music event, students Matthew L,eal, Ryan Huston, and Dominic Carnevale refused to let anything rain on their parade. Their spirited performance in our beautiful outdoor setting enchanted all who heard them, proving that music can brighten even the dreariest days.
This event allows us at the garden to enjoy live music while giving these gifted musicians an invaluable opportunity to interact with the public. Thank you for sharing your talent and uplifting our community!
